VISION:
We find Ryan sat at his lounge / diner table which is strewn with lots of model making paraphernalia. He stares perplexed as he hold an empty bottle in one hand and a small model ship in the other.
Ryan looks up skyward in response…
… And puts down the ship and bottle and goes to the other side of the room.
He picks up the box containing his Freeview digital box and walks to the sofa. He sits down and begins taking components out while Brian checks them off verbally.
Ryan shakes the empty box as it has no scart lead.
Ryan picks up an electrical shop bag and produces a Scart lead from it.
Ryan walks over to the TV and looks behind the TV at the aerial cable plugged into the aerial socket on the wall.

‘FREEVIEW SET-UP. MUCH EASIER THAN BUILDING A SHIP IN A BOTTLE’
VO:
Brian speaks off screen:
RYAN! BEFORE YOU EVEN THINK OF TRYING TO PUT THAT IN THERE, YOUR FREEVIEW ISN’T EVEN OUT OF ITS BOX!
NOW COME ON!
SET UP ISN’T THAT DIFFICULT!
Now. Open the box and you shall find the following. A Freeview digital box, a power lead, a remote control, some batteries for the remote control and a Scart lead. Now..
… Oh. You don’t have a Scart lead? Not to worry, some Freeview digital boxes don’t come with them but for around £5 you can find a good quality…
… AH SPLENDID! THAT’S THE FELLOW!
WELL THAT’S EVERYTHING WE NEED TO GET CRACKING. Now, the television’s switched off? Good. Now lets now get round the back.
Take the aerial lead from the back of the TV and put it into the aerial socket of the digital box – it should be clearly marked.
Now, that Scart lead goes into the Digital Box in the socket marked ‘TV’.
Then, plug the other end into the FIRST Scart socket on your television.
Switch your TV on standby, and then switch it on with your television remote control.
Once that is done – plug in the power lead to your new digital box AND TURN IT ON! Most televisions will automatically detect the digital box, but for others, on the television remote control go to AV1.
Most digital boxes are ready to automatically start tuning.
Once your Freeview digital box is tuned, you’ll see BBC1. You can now use your Freeview remote control, to change the channel and adjust the volume…
DON’T ANNOY THE NEIGHBOURS RYAN!
There’s also a nifty TV guide to find the programmes you like.
AND THAT’S IT! NOW, THAT WASN’T TOO HARD WAS IT RYAN?
FREEVIEW SET-UP. MUCH EASIER THAN BUILDING A SHIP IN A BOTTLE!
All digital boxes come with instructions on how to set up, but if you're having problems, just follow the simple steps below.
With your Freeview digital box you should have the following items:
Take out the aerial lead from the back of your TV (this connects the aerial socket in the wall and your TV) and put this end into the aerial socket on the digital box. The socket should be marked ‘RF In’, ‘Antenna’, ‘Aerial’ or ‘Ant In’.
Put one end of the Scart lead into the digital box, this socket is usually labelled ‘TV’ or ‘Scart 1’ and the other end into the first Scart socket on your television.
If your TV does not have a Scart socket, then certain digital boxes with something called an ‘RF modulator’ will allow you to use another aerial cable to connect the digital box to the TV.
Put your TV on standby and then switch the TV on using your television remote control.
Plug the power lead into your new Freeview digital box and turn it on. Most televisions will automatically detect the digital box, if not go to the AV1 channel on your TV remote control.
Most digital boxes are ready to automatically start tuning. If you have problems with tuning see our Retuning Guide. Once your Freeview digital box is tuned, you’ll be able to save the channels you have found and go to BBC1. You can now use your Freeview remote control to explore the range of channels.
